Which names a wildcard certificate covers

A wildcard certificate also locks the subdomains of one domain. It does not cover a different domain.

example.com and mail.example.com fit one certificate. other.com does not. That one needs its own certificate.

  1. Buy the wildcard with the main domain.
  2. Open the subdomains in DNS, then select the certificate for those names too.
  3. If you have a second brand domain, buy a separate card for it.
