When a page shows 404

404 means the server found no file at that address. It does not mean the whole site is gone.

If WordPress permalinks break, posts become 404. If the home page is still there, save the permalink setting first.

  1. Check the address letter by letter.
  2. In WordPress admin, save permalinks once.
  3. If the file is really missing, look in the folder with the cPanel or Plesk file manager.
